Equality and Diversity consultancy and training
This involves working both with the Cymru Equality and Diversity Consortium and as a sole consultant/trainer. Formulating and implementing race/equality strategies and associated training for staff, councillors, Board Members and tenants. Assistance and advice to local authorities on Equality Standards and Race Equality Schemes will be a one of a number of specialisms. Distinctive features of the training will be to draw from earlier Welsh history (18th to 20th centuries) to make links with 21st century issues along with an analysis of two "Rural Racism" case studies ( one from Powys.) . Clients will typically include local authorities, housing associations, tenant groups/TPAS Cymru/National Tenants Resource Centre, the Chartered Institute of Housing, Welsh Federation of Housing Associations, Probation and Police.
Anti social behaviour, community safety and community mediation
This involves innovative work looking at both traditional responses to anti-social behaviour (ASB Orders, eviction etc) and alternative approaches being tried out across the UK which focuses on supporting the individual to stop the offending behaviour as opposed to punishment and moving the individual/ family on to re-offend elsewhere. Same client base as above.
Tenant/Resident Participation and Community Development
Looking at how residents and local community groups can be more meaningfully involved in consultation processes and drawing from examples of excellent practice. Client base would include councils, newly formed stock transfer organisations and housing associations.
Research into housing strategy and innovation
This will involve researching/reviewing/formulating a range of strategies and policies in social housing. Local housing needs assessments, local housing strategies and homelessness reviews and asylum seekers and refugees policies would be amongst areas covered. As mentioned earlier in Home Page a key feature of the services provided by Clifton will be to reflect the "modernising agenda" theme to make a wide range of public services more accessible and relevant to a range of communities and groups through a variety of consultative methods. Clients here would include local authorities and housing associations.
